Cross-department coordination
Cross-department coordination is the liaison function that ensures a process passing through several areas — technical, sales, logistics, administration, management — does not stall in any of them. It means knowing what each party needs to do its job, asking for it at the right time, passing information in the format each area understands and following up until the step is complete.
Why I consider it important
Almost every business process crosses several departments, and almost every delay happens in the handover from one to the next: information arrives incomplete, nobody knows it is their turn to act, or each area uses its own system and its own priorities. A person acting as liaison, with a view of the whole process, removes those gaps. In remote teams this function is even more necessary, because the corridor where questions used to get answered no longer exists.
How I apply it
I keep track of where each case stands and who has the next step. I make requests with the information needed to get them done first time, flag deadlines as they approach, and escalate to management only when the process cannot move forward without a decision.
Concrete examples
INDIBA2023–present
liaison between the customer, workshop technicians, logistics (pick-ups and shipments) and administration (quotes and invoices) on every technical service case, so the device leaves on time and the customer is kept informed.
Clínica Dermik2015–2021
coordinating the reception team and acting as the link between non-medical staff and Management for six years: doctors' and operating-room schedules, shifts, incidents and material needs.
Dicom Events2008–2014
liaison between the design team, the client's communication agency and each project's suppliers, with documentation and budgets as the meeting point.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly does a cross-department liaison do?
Knows the whole process, knows what each area needs in order to act, passes information at the right time and in the right format, and follows up until the step is complete. They do not decide for the departments; they keep them from stalling.
How do you stop coordination turning into constant meetings?
With a visible status per case (in the CRM or ERP), written requests with complete information, and meetings only for decisions, not for updates.
Is cross-department coordination an administrative skill?
Yes. It is one of the core functions of an administration and operations role: the administrative department is often the only one that sees the process from start to finish.
